Manager, MBA Consulting

We are seeking a Manager, MBA Consulting, with high energy, a positive attitude and a passion for mentoring young people as they make higher education and career choices. Our Manager, MBA Consulting will manage the MBA Consulting Service Line for The Red Pen, and occasionally work one-on-one with applicants to develop the most compelling application to global MBA programs.

Primary responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the MBA Consultants and Content Specialists in the MBA Service Line
  • Lead sales and screening of all MBA inquiries; Manage the CRM system for the service line
  • Conceptualize, develop, and execute operational strategies to streamline processes for the service line
  • As a Lead Consultant, provide end-to-end support to MBA applicants on all aspects of the application to business school
  • Assist the market team with social media marketing including strategic planning and execution; assist the internal operations team with data analysis
  • Maintain relations with admissions officers and current students and alumni of global business schools

The Requirements 

  • Strong preference for an MBA from a global (non-Indian) program, with an exception for the Indian School of Business. Will consider Masters’ degrees from global (non-Indian) program.
  • At least three years of post-MBA work experience, including one year of managing people, preferably in a location outside India
  • A team player, who can thrive in a fast-paced, high growth start-up environment
  • Outstanding organizational abilities with a meticulous focus on detail
  • A responsive and engaged work-style, including the ability to respond to client communications within 24 Hours
  • Maturity, polish and professionalism; the ability to listen and counsel

Undergraduate Consultant

We are seeking Undergraduate Consultants with high energy, a positive attitude and a passion for mentoring young people as they make higher education choices. Our Undergraduate Consultants work one-on-one with applicants to develop the most compelling application to universities abroad.

Primary Responsibilities

The Undergraduate Consultant is responsible for the end-to-end project management and advising undergraduate applicants. TRP will train the Consultant to execute duties listed below according to internal procedures and processes:

  • Understanding an applicant’s background
  • Conducting online research and suggest programs/universities relevant to the applicant’s strengths and goals
  • Creating and maintaining timelines
  • Counseling applicant and parents on college choice, education goals and choice of major
  • Brainstorming topics for essays, interviews and other application components
  • Assisting with resume creation
  • Coordinating essay drafts (via the Essay Editing Specialist) to assess relevance of content, expression and grammar. Must be comfortable providing verbal and written feedback and inline suggestions
  • Reviewing all written application materials, including but not limited to essays, application forms, and resumes to ensure consistency and proof reading to ensure effective presentation
  • Conducting basic interview preparation
  • Motivating applicants through a demanding, prolonged application process
  • All relevant and reasonable activity required to assist an applicant as they prepare for the application process for college abroad
  • Communicating continuously with core undergraduate services team on applicant progress

Structure of Work

  • Applications are typically submitted in the November to February timeframe, decisions are rendered in December and March. The bulk of a consultant’s client-focused work is conducted between July and March. Non-client work will be determined and assigned throughout the year depending on terms of employment
  • Consultants can join our team on either a full-time or part-time basis
  • Both part-time and full-time consultants are compensated on a fixed monthly salary basis
  • Part-time consultants have the flexibility to set their own working hours, keeping in mind client requirements/schedules
  • All consultants are required to participate in weekly team meetings (during business hours in India) and to attend periodic planning and training sessions

MBA Consultant

We are seeking MBA Consultants with high energy, a positive attitude and a passion for mentoring young people as they make higher education and career choices. Our MBA Consultants work one-on-one with applicants to develop the most compelling application to global MBA programs.

Primary Responsibilities

The MBA Consultant is responsible for the end-to-end project management and advising for a fixed number of applicants to MBA programs. TRP will train the Consultant to execute duties listed below according to internal procedures and processes:

  • Understanding an applicant’s background
  • Conducting online research and suggesting programs/universities relevant to the applicant’s strengths and goals
  • Creating and maintaining material development timelines
  • Engaging the applicant in a meaningful and realistic goal development exercise
  • Brainstorming story/content for essays, interviews and other application components
  • Overseeing resume edits (via the resume specialist)
  • Coordinating essay drafts including assessing relevance of content, expression and grammar. Must be comfortable providing verbal and written feedback and inline suggestions
  • Reviewing an applicant’s recommendation letter strategy
  • Reviewing all written application materials, including but not limited to essays, application forms, and resumes to ensure consistency and proof reading to ensure effective presentation
  • Conducting basic interview preparation
  • Counseling applicant about career/education goals
  • Motivating applicants through a demanding, prolonged application process
  • All relevant and reasonable activity required to assist an applicant as they prepare for the global MBA application process
  • Communicating continuously with core MBA services team on applicant progress

Structure of Work

Institutional Consultant

As we grow and build out our service offerings, we are seeking Institutional Consultants with high energy, a positive attitude and a passion for mentoring young people as they make higher education choices. Institutional Consultants work with schools, helping the administration develop a comprehensive university counseling program.

Primary Responsibilities

The Institutional Consultant is responsible for the end-to-end management of a school’s university counseling department. TRP will train the Institutional Consultant to execute duties listed below according to internal procedures and processes:

Reputation

  • Own tech roadmap, contribute to overall vision, product strategy and help build and manage the tech team.
  • Building a school’s presence and profile amongst international institutions
  • Ensuring that a school is well integrated into the local educational eco-system
  • Attending conferences and events to represent the school

 

Platform

  • Set up and maintain all institutional accounts and memberships
  • Develop an effective school profile document and transcript
  • Develop and execute a system for developing and submitting letters of recommendation

Advising

  • Broad-based
    • Conceptualizing and conducting workshops for a wide range of students and parents; topics include IGCSE/IBDP subject choices, resume development, school research, essay writing, summer planning, etc.
    • Establishing and executing a comprehensive, consistent communication strategy for both the administration and families
    • Creating and maintaining timelines for application materials and processes
  • Individual-based
    • Understanding an applicant’s background
    • Conducting online research and suggest programs/universities relevant to the applicant’s strengths and goals
    • Counseling applicant and parents on college choice, education goals and choice of major
    • Brainstorming topics for essays, interviews and other application components
    • Reviewing written application materials to ensure consistency
    • Conducting basic interview preparation
    • Motivating applicants through a demanding, prolonged application process

Structure of Work

  • 20 hours/week in the institution’s premises; 20 hours/week at The Red Pen’s offices. Exact days and times to be mutually agreed upon
    • Conceptualizing and conducting workshops for a wide range of students and parents; topics include IGCSE/IBDP subject choices, resume development, school research, essay writing, summer planning, etc.
    • Establishing and executing a comprehensive, consistent communication strategy for both the administration and families
    • Creating and maintaining timelines for application materials and processes

Requirements

Content Specialist

We are seeking Content Specialist with strong communication skills, an orientation towards creative thinking and who are perceptive and can appreciate different work styles and backgrounds. Our Content Specialist work closely with application consultants to help applicants develop compelling applications to global universities.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Comprehensive proofreading of application forms, essays and resumes, including but not limited to structural and margin comments and in-line edits
  • The ability to synthesize/understand applicant stories/experiences and help them translate those into written form through brainstorming sessions
  • Collaborate with application consultants to help applicants conceptualize, structure and produce polished, original essays and statements of purpose
  • Guide students through effective college-specific research to identify relevant resources and offerings for reference in essays
  • Create original content for digital and social media channels on an as-needed basis

Requirements

  • A writing-intensive degree (i.e., in a humanities or social science discipline) from a globally recognized university, preferably in the US, Canada or UK
  • A team player, who can thrive in a fast-paced, high growth start-up environment
