After spending months labouring over your master’s application, it is almost time to submit it. At this stage, you need to start gathering all the additional documents required by the colleges to which you are applying.
Here are a few guidelines to keep in mind so that you don’t miss your deadlines!
Since most colleges expect official transcripts from your previous degree-granting institutions, ensure that you have hard copies available. These should be put into official envelopes (or plain white ones), sealed with an official stamp and labelled appropriately. If your previous institution refuses to courier transcripts directly, then you can courier them yourself.
Colleges across the globe expect you to provide the official email address of each recommender so that they can contact them directly to upload their recommendation letters. You need to make sure that you have informed your recommender that you will be providing their email addresses wherever asked. At times, colleges may ask for hard copies as well. If this is the case, your recommender should write the letter on official letterhead and put it into a sealed envelope with their signature across the seal. In case your recommender fails to upload the soft copy of the recommendation on time, these hard copies can be couriered to ensure you do not miss the deadline. It will be beneficial for you to label the sealed envelopes, otherwise, you will have numerous sealed envelopes and won’t know the difference between them.
3) Test scores:
A major data point of your master’s application is your standardised test scores, without which your application will be incomplete. If you haven’t sent your college your TOEFL/GMAT/GRE/IELTS scores already, make sure that you send them via the official testing website. You may be required to send a printout of your scores as well.
4) Other documents:
Once you have submitted your online application, some colleges might ask you to upload or courier some other documents such as a photocopy of your valid passport, an affidavit of sponsor support, a letter from your bank manager showing funds in the savings account or a college-provided checklist. Make sure that you send these documents as quickly as possible, once they are requested.
5) Other guidelines:
When putting together your application packet, use A-3/A-2 sized green envelopes (with netting inside). Print an address label of the admissions department and stick it on the front of the envelope. At the back, you need to have your name, number and any applicant/student ID generated when you completed the online form. Do remember that not all colleges ask for hard copies of these documents, so sending this package may not be compulsory. Just ensure that all the required documents reach the college either through postal mail or electronically.
