Location: Mumbai (Hybrid)
Experience: 5-7 years
Employment Type: Full-time

About The Red Pen

The Red Pen is a leading educational consultancy that helps students gain admission to boarding schools, undergraduate, master’s, MBA, and PhD programmes worldwide. We work closely with ambitious students and families to help them identify, apply to, and thrive at institutions where they can achieve their academic and career goals.

Role Overview

We are looking for a highly organised, proactive, and creative Content & Social Media Manager to take complete ownership of The Red Pen’s social media presence.

This is a hands-on, high-accountability role for someone who enjoys balancing creativity with execution. You will act as the central owner of The Red Pen’s content ecosystem, ensuring a consistent pipeline of high-quality content across campaigns, events, partnerships, student success stories, and thought leadership initiatives.

Working closely with counselling, events, partnerships, leadership, and marketing teams, you will identify stories, source information, create content, and drive a consistent flow of high-quality communication across platforms. Success in this role requires exceptional organisational skills, strong creative instincts, outstanding written English, and the ability to execute independently in a fast-paced environment where deadlines are non-negotiable.

Key Responsibilities

Content Strategy & Planning

  • Own and manage The Red Pen’s Instagram and LinkedIn presence.
  • Develop and maintain content calendars aligned with business priorities, admissions cycles, events, partnerships, and campaigns.
  • Build and manage a forward-looking content pipeline that supports business goals, campaigns, events, partnerships, and admissions cycles.
  • Identify trends, audience interests, and opportunities to improve engagement and reach.

Content Creation & Publishing

  • Translate complex admissions, education, and career-related topics into engaging, audience-friendly content.
  • Create content across formats, including social media posts, carousels, videos, event promotions, and campaign assets.
  • Write captions, scripts, headlines, and promotional copy that align with The Red Pen’s brand voice.
  • Shoot and edit short-form video content, including Instagram Reels, event coverage, interviews, student stories, and leadership content.
  • Design social media and event creatives using Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Repurpose blogs, webinars, student success stories, events, and thought leadership content into engaging social media assets.
  • Schedule, publish, and optimise content across digital platforms.
  • Maintain a consistent visual and editorial identity across all content.

Project Management & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Coordinate with counselling, events, partnerships, leadership, and marketing teams to source content and gather inputs.
  • Manage multiple projects, campaigns, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Establish efficient workflows to streamline content production and execution.
  • Proactively follow up with stakeholders to ensure content requirements are met on time.
  • Maintain strong attention to detail and ensure all content meets The Red Pen’s quality standards.
  • Identify and proactively source stories, updates, achievements, and content opportunities from across the organisation.

Performance & Reporting

  • Track content performance and audience engagement across platforms.
  • Analyse data and generate actionable insights.
  • Recommend and implement improvements based on performance metrics and audience behaviour.

Experience

  • 5-7 years of experience in content marketing, social media management, digital marketing, or a related role. However, candidates with other educational backgrounds and a strong portfolio are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience creating content for premium, service-led, consulting, education, or EdTech brands.
  • Experience working in a lean, fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience in education, higher education, EdTech, or a related sector, particularly within international university admissions, is preferred.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience creating and managing content for Instagram and LinkedIn.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong understanding of Instagram and LinkedIn content strategies and platform best practices.
  • Strong editorial judgement and the ability to translate complex ideas into engaging, audience-focused content.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders, competing priorities, and tight deadlines.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating copywriting, content creation, social media management, and video editing capabilities.
  • Ability to create compelling written, visual, and video content independently.
  • Strong project management and organisational skills.
  • Proficiency in Canva and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience with social media publishing, scheduling, and analytics tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to take content from concept to execution with minimal supervision.

Educational Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, Media, Advertising, Public Relations, or a related field is preferred.
  • Personal experience studying abroad is a plus, but not required.

Please note: This is not a content coordination role. The successful candidate will be expected to independently plan, create, publish, and optimise content while managing multiple stakeholders and deadlines. The role requires equal parts creativity, initiative, organisation, and execution.

After you apply with your CV, we will reach out to you for:

  • Links to social media accounts or brands you have managed.
  • A portfolio showcasing content, copywriting, video editing, and campaign work.
  • Examples of Instagram Reels and LinkedIn content you have created.

CANDIDATE:
AN

GRE/GMAT:
Did not take

GPA:
3.43/4.0 (as per her WES evaluation)

Qualification:
BA Economics

Work Experience:
Less than six months

Admitted to:
NYU

Background

AN aimed for an MS in Marketing in the US and the UK. The applicant was prompt in balancing the WES evaluation and other application components. However, while brainstorming the SOP we encountered a challenge. The applicant lacked sufficient work experience, which is gained through internships. They only had a two-month marketing internship in a finance company. However, as an undergraduate, the applicant was editor-in-chief of the college magazine, co-authored academic papers and hosted an Instagram series on mental health, diversity, and the LGBTQ+ community.

Approach

While storyboarding, we strategically guided the applicant to match their academic endeavours with their desire to become an inclusive impact marketer. As an editor, writer and social media content creator for diversity and inclusivity, AN developed excellent communication skills, an understanding of different people, and concise and compelling storytelling abilities. We advised the applicant to position themself as a collaborative marketing person who understood diverse needs, has problem-solving skills and was familiar with contemporary communication platforms.

Key Takeaway

AN exemplifies how storyboarding with expert counsellors can help applicants identify experiences that align with their goals. Our strategic advice proved valuable, and the applicant received offers from programmes of their choice. It reinforced the fact that transferable skills, like problem-solving, communication, collaboration and technical proficiency, are greatly valued and can compensate for work experience.
