Job Description:

The Head of MBA Admissions at The Red Pen plays a critical role in leading the MBA Admissions team and developing strategic initiatives to drive business growth, client satisfaction, and revenue for the MBA vertical. This position is responsible for setting the vision, managing overall P&L, and implementing an effective business strategy for the MBA service line. The incumbent will lead and mentor team members, establish high-performance standards, and drive both revenue and client satisfaction by providing expert guidance throughout the admissions process.

The Red Pen is an independent education consulting company, helping applicants plan their education at the school, university or postgraduate levels. We also assist high schools to develop a student-focused, scalable university counseling infrastructure. We currently have approximately 100+ team members, located around the world. Most of our team members have lived, worked and/or studied outside India.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Business Development

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive business strategy aligned with the overall vision for the MBA service line, ensuring it is adaptable to industry trends and client needs.
  • Drive the financial performance of the MBA service line, managing overall P&L to meet or exceed revenue targets and deliver agreed-upon margins.
  • Lead periodic analysis of industry trends, competitive landscape, product mix and global best practices to maintain a competitive edge and adapt business strategies accordingly.

Team Management & Talent Development

  • Train, mentor, and coach the MBA Admissions team members, fostering an environment of continuous growth, skill development, and performance improvement.
  • Set and evaluate team and individual goals, providing periodic feedback, and collaborating with leadership on talent acquisition, management, and retention plans.
  • Promote knowledge sharing, best practices, and professional development opportunities for team members to enhance overall service delivery.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Lead the client servicing team in delivering exceptional support to applicants through personalized guidance across the MBA admissions process.
  • Develop and implement a client servicing strategy focused on satisfaction, engagement, and retention, ensuring a high-quality experience for all MBA applicants.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, MBA program admissions officers, alumni, and industry influencers.
  • Manage and resolve client issues promptly, designing and implementing feedback loops such as client satisfaction surveys to continuously improve service standards.

Sales & Marketing Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the marketing team to design and implement targeted marketing campaigns for the MBA vertical, enhancing visibility and client acquisition.
  • Create effective messaging and competitive differentiation strategies to position The Red Pen’s MBA services as a top choice in the market.
  • Oversee sales performance metrics and report regularly to leadership, ensuring that key KPIs and targets are met.

Operations & Process Optimization

  • Conceptualize and implement process improvements to streamline operations, enhancing efficiency and consistency in client servicing and admissions consulting.
  • Manage the CRM system to track and analyze data related to client interactions, sales leads, and conversion metrics, ensuring data-driven decision-making.
  • Collaborate with data analysis teams to leverage insights for optimizing service delivery, identifying potential growth opportunities, and refining client engagement.

Hands-On Admissions Consulting

  • Provide expert admissions consulting, working one-on-one with applicants to develop compelling MBA applications for top global programs.
  • Understand an applicant’s unique background, conduct program research, and recommend targeted MBA programs aligned with the applicant’s goals.
  • Guide applicants through brainstorming, essay and resume development, interview preparation, and recommendation strategy, ensuring consistency and clarity in all application components.
  • Support and motivate applicants through the demanding application process, maintaining timelines and high standards of quality.
  • Help applicants with a broad spectrum of stand alone services intended to strengthen their business school applications

Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum 10 years of experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within MBA admissions consulting, higher education, or a related field.
  • Skills: Strong business acumen with experience in P&L management, sales strategy, and team leadership. Proven track record in client relationship management and process optimization.
  • Expertise: In-depth knowledge of global MBA admissions processes, industry trends, and competitive landscape.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with clients, stakeholders, and team members.
  • Education: MBA degree preferably from M7 Business school, with demonstrated success in higher education admissions or a related consulting role.

Neil Maheshwari is CFO & COO of the U.S. News & World Report, L.P. He has overall responsibility for financial strategy, capital allocation, business operations and strategic investments.

He has over 30 years of experience in the media business, especially related to corporate finance, business operations, taxes and digital strategy. He was a key member of the team that led the digital transformation of U.S. News in 2010.

Neil’s career began at the New York Daily News in 1993, following its acquisition by Mort Zuckerman. Over the years his responsibilities have encompassed budgeting, contract negotiations, tax management and IT operations for the New York Daily News, U.S. News & World Report and other media entities under the family’s ownership.

As a member of the executive committee, Neil participates in crucial business-strategy decisions and their implementation. He is also deeply involved in evaluating all potential acquisition and divestiture opportunities for the media companies owned by Mort Zuckerman. His prior experience includes leading the sale of Fast Company to G & J in December 2000, as well as the sales of Atlantic Monthly, Radar magazine, Applied Printing Technologies and, most recently, the New York Daily News to Tribune Publishing in 2017.

Before joining the Daily News and U.S. News, Neil spent over four years with a mid-town CPA firm, specialising in audits and mergers & acquisitions for publishing clients. He also gained experience at the India offices of Arthur Andersen and Ernst & Young.
