FAQs

After high school, an undergraduate degree is the first higher education level students pursue. It usually takes three years in the UK and four years in the US to finish and involves taking relevant courses to earn a final undergraduate degree qualification.

Choosing a country for your undergraduate education greatly depends on your academic goals, personal preferences and financial plans. While the USA, UK, Canada, Australia and parts of Europe are popular choices, the Indian undergraduate landscape is quickly evolving to meet international standards. Candidates look for destinations that match their specialisation and cultural interests. You can book a session with our college counsellors to find the best country for you.

An undergraduate degree is a broad term that includes bachelor’s degrees and other first-level degrees, such as foundation and certificate degrees. Students working towards an undergraduate degree usually aim for a bachelor’s degree in science, arts, or commerce. Some opt for associate degrees, which focus on practical, vocational or technical skills. Undergraduate programmes apart from the bachelor’s degree are completed within a shorter period.

The terms “graduate” and “undergraduate” are used interchangeably in India, but there is a difference. An undergraduate student has usually finished high school and is pursuing the first higher education level by taking courses towards a bachelor’s or associate’s degree. On the other hand, a graduate student has already completed his undergraduate education and is pursuing specialised courses to earn a Master’s or PhD.

Choosing the right university depends on your personal, academic, and professional goals and cultural preferences. While some top-tier universities like the Ivy League schools in the US or Oxbridge in the UK are well-respected, many universities around the world now offer specialised degrees that cater to a broader range of interests. In short, the best university for you is the one that aligns with your goals and preferences.

There are various undergraduate degrees depending on the country and qualification you wish to pursue. Associates degrees last about two years, while Bachelor’s degrees can take 3-5 years. Some common degrees include Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Engg./Tech, Bachelor of Law, Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Media Studies and more.

The US is one of the most popular international destinations to pursue an undergraduate degree. Each college has its application requirements. Typically you need to apply a year before the academic year of the university you wish to attend. Bachelor’s degrees usually take four years to complete. The first two years are spent focusing on mandatory general courses in math, history, literature, and communications and the last two years; you focus on your major.

Every university has its own application process and requirements. Usually require academic transcripts, which include grades and other academic achievements between grades 10-12, proof of language proficiency, essays, reference letters, project descriptions or portfolios, a CV or resume and more.

Undergraduate Medicine (MBBS)

Approach

KS joined us in grade 10, aiming for medicine in the UK while also considering a BS/MD in the US. We helped her build a profile that met both pathways, giving her time to explore before deciding. Since she started early, we strategically paced her preparation to balance academics with activities such as clinical placements, rural health campaigns and research. Alongside this, we helped her develop interpersonal skills for the Multiple Mini Interview (MMI).

When her UCAT score was lower than expected, we shifted focus to medical schools that valued her academic strength. Through extensive, university-specific mock interviews, she refined her responses to deliver with confidence and clarity. Her discipline, adaptability and openness to feedback, supported by dual-pathway preparation and targeted interview coaching, positioned her to succeed in one of the UK’s most competitive admissions processes.

AN

GRE/GMAT:
Did not take

GPA:
3.43/4.0 (as per her WES evaluation)

Qualification:
BA Economics

Work Experience:
Less than six months

Admitted to:
NYU

Background

AN aimed for an MS in Marketing in the US and the UK. The applicant was prompt in balancing the WES evaluation and other application components. However, while brainstorming the SOP we encountered a challenge. The applicant lacked sufficient work experience, which is gained through internships. They only had a two-month marketing internship in a finance company. However, as an undergraduate, the applicant was editor-in-chief of the college magazine, co-authored academic papers and hosted an Instagram series on mental health, diversity, and the LGBTQ+ community.

Approach

While storyboarding, we strategically guided the applicant to match their academic endeavours with their desire to become an inclusive impact marketer. As an editor, writer and social media content creator for diversity and inclusivity, AN developed excellent communication skills, an understanding of different people, and concise and compelling storytelling abilities. We advised the applicant to position themself as a collaborative marketing person who understood diverse needs, has problem-solving skills and was familiar with contemporary communication platforms.

Key Takeaway

AN exemplifies how storyboarding with expert counsellors can help applicants identify experiences that align with their goals. Our strategic advice proved valuable, and the applicant received offers from programmes of their choice. It reinforced the fact that transferable skills, like problem-solving, communication, collaboration and technical proficiency, are greatly valued and can compensate for work experience.
